Almost 6 years after the closure of Hong Kong Airport’s original Terminal 2 building, the new and greatly enlarged Terminal 2 opened its departure hall in May and June. The terminal serves regional and low-cost airlines. The terminal is connected to Terminal 1 via an extended Automated People Mover system.

A new Terminal 2 Concourse (T2C) located near the new third runway, is slated to open in 2027. T2C is connected to Terminal 2 via a new 2.6km long tunnel housing an Automated People Mover and high speed automated baggage system. The redevelopment is part of the US$18 billion Third Runway Development.
